And then there were four. We have a Quartet of Snowmen! I think the one with his mouth wide open is the tenor. There’s just something about tenors…..
As you can see, I took my camera outside in hopes of improving my shots. Oh well. I’ll keep trying.
The pin I pinned is here. I tracked it to here. This site has lots of snowmen made from re-purposed items. If you have developed a liking for the cold shouldered, little clothed, smiling beings who are the progeny of Snow balls check it out. It’s a cool browse.

Materials
4- 3” Styrofoam balls
1-Tube Sock, Men’s Size 6-12
1-Hat (Crochet Instructions follow if you choose or felt or fleece or fabric scraps)
4-Scarves
Eyes (Black Pompoms, felt, or buttons)
Noses (Scrap of Fabric, Orange Fine Tip Sharpie, Black Ultra-Fine Tip or White Pompoms or felt or buttons)
Mouths (Red Felt)
Blush and Brush
5 Zip Ties (or yarn, string, bread ties or floral wire)
Small piece of holiday greenery
Assorted buttons or other decoration
Corsage Pins
Glue
Ribbon
My sock had a grey toe. I gathered the toe with a zip tie as tight as possible and cut it.
- Insert Styrofoam balls into sock.
The simplest way to insert the Styrofoam balls is to roll the sock down toward the toe and insert the first ball, roll the sock over the first ball and insert the second, leaving a little space between the balls. Repeat the process for the third and fourth Styro balls. I had a substantial amount of sock left. I left it rolled snuggly against the last styro ball.
- Tie the ‘neck’ of each Snowman with the zip tie. Not too tight, just define each head.
- Glue on eyes, noses, mouths
I didn’t have white pompoms for the noses as seen in the original. I did have black so used those for the eyes. Buttons would be great. The noses were drawn on a scrap of light colored fabric with a fine-tipped orange Sharpie and outlined with the black ultra-fine-tipped. The mouths were cut from red felt.
- Add scarves to ‘necks’
If crochet is not an option, use fleece or felt to cut and fringe scarves. Torn fabric would be cute to make country snowmen. Tie a bit of decoration to the greenery for the top snowman. Use a small Christmas ornament or berries cut from felt if no buttons available. I stabbed the button, the scarf and the snowman with a corsage pin to secure the scarf. Hey, it works!
- Add a 12” length of ribbon doubled to the top of the Quartet for hanging.
Glue and pin the ribbon loop to the top.
- Thread the ribbon loop through the top of the hat.
If using felt or fabric to make the hat, cut a small hole in the top to accommodate the ribbon.
- Make a small bow for the Hat.
- Glue and pin Hat to Quartet, securing bow with one of the pins.
Done!
Gather your supplies and ornamentation and this goes really quickly.
