Slow Down, Moving Too Fast

14 May

Time is hurtling by me. And that’s a topic that recurs in my thoughts and ramblings with stunning regularity. Time.

How does one find the time to do the things that satisfy, make life worth living, when so much of our time is spent just trying to make a living?

You would think at my age I would have a better grasp of this. Yeah. You would think. But it has escaped me. This road I travel is one of accidents. It’s a take-it-as-it-comes road, good, bad, or indifferent, just deal-with-it-when-it-happens road.

I’m trying to take a right. Signing up for all the festivals and craft shows I feel like I can afford and posting to my Etsy shop and 7 or so other platforms is a beginning. But it is a slow go. And I know I’m not moving fast enough…time is moving too fast…it’s slipping by me and my desire to begin by traveling Arkansas with my wares is becoming a reality in slow motion because I’m trying to fund it the goal without making sales of my wares…but I am building a following one person at a time. I’m making contacts, passing out cards, receiving new invitations to participate…is this how it is done? Is this the beginnings of a success I’ve never known? I don’t recognize it as I have no experience of it.

Time. Do I have time to do this? The spousal unit thinks not. He has no confidence in me. He’s focused on my efforts to find a ‘job’. Yes…I do need a steady income source. But I need this creative outlet. I need to spend time in my ‘happy place’ and travel to the festivals and shows, local and not so local, set up and talk to people, enjoy the social aspects as well as the possibility of success.

Time. I want to add mono-prints and emulsion prints to my inventory. I’m stymied. I reach a point in the day where my energy has waned and I’m ready to immerse myself in a book. I need to learn to pull back from that…Time.

I’ve just indulged in such a self-absorbed rant. My apologies.

Here’s another post to my Etsy shop. It’s time.

It’s Hump Day

6 May

Can you hear that camel proclaiming the day? There truly are advertising geniuses out there. How many jingles can you hum or sing? How many ad quotes pepper your thoughts or speech? Oh yeah…geniuses.

I’m not one.

There is a lovely cardinal hovering around the window outside my workroom. He was perched on the fence when I first noticed him. Ah, Spring has sprung and the temps are hovering in the eighties this week. Time to consider opening the pool. The water will slowly warm and eventually we can spend an evening or two enjoying the stars.

Nights would be best. Either that or a full body suit for me. Either one would hide the many imperfections! Hehe…who cares? Every wrinkle and imperfection has been earned I think.

Today I’m posting again to my Etsy shop. Here’s the offering. Let me know what you think…or go shopping here!

May Day and The Sun is Shining

1 May

Good day! May 1st finds me still unemployed and energetically, well as energetically as possible for a woman of a certain age, in pursuit of a dream. That being creating a living without a job.

There is much to learn.

Today’s Etsy finds in aFrameJob follow. I hope you like them and would so appreciate some honest feedback. If you’re seeing them posted all over the place, please forgive me. I’m trying to increase visibility. You can help! Just share my postings. And thank you in advance.

Tomorrow I will participate in the Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub Mini Maker Faire. My booth can be found in Craft World. Must say, this is beyond exciting. All the markets, fairs, festivals, events…get us out and about and meeting and greeting. Hopping about may be a great introduction to new places and spaces in Arkansas.

So here’s to May Day, also a Friday. Hope yours is splendid!

It’s Time

26 Mar

Soooooo hard to believe how fast time flies these days. Although the sinus infection from Hades has slowed it down a bit for the past two weeks….doctor visit anyone? I really don’t want to go. Body, heal thyself.

Zach is gardening in the drizzly, cloudy weather we are experiencing today. The drizzly, cloudy stuff has become a common theme…and the temperature is dropping. We must keep our hopes up that warm weather and swimming will soon be upon us.

In the meantime, we await the new roof and the tree-trimming that has to precede it. Oh dear, home repair is expensive! We’ll also be shopping for a new hot water heater. I can’t wait to move to an on-demand version, energy-efficient and won’t crash through the floor!  The floor in that spot has a joist problem. Poor old house. Love it, but it is the money pit.

I’m taking my stoppered head to a place of comfort for a spell. Have a great day. Smell a few roses along the way.

Up Today

Adding a second display board to my Etsy collection today. Glad to be here and get this done!

I spent a few moments in the barn today and I wore a MASK, hoping to avoid any more sick days due to inhalation of dust, sawdust, and whatever other detritus flies in the face of a 50 plus year old animal structure. It is well weathered and worn, but I do so love it!

Also spent time discussing mono-printing at the local art store. The young man who spoke to me was so full of ideas! Loved it. Can’t wait to get started. A new craft!!! Oh my!!!! Add it to my collection of have-to/had-to try its. This one may be a keeper.

Until next time!

Pins, Profits, and Getting Started

17 Mar

Today, I began the adventure…well actually the adventure started a very long time ago. Lots of preparation and a split in the space-time continuum and here I am,  finally making the first photo display board post to my Etsy shop.

There will be more!

Since I am currently unemployed (again!), this seems a good use of time and energy. I must remember to use a mask in the barn however, for once again I am also suffering a sinus infection. A week of it has almost done for me.

Reminds me of Wally Lamb’s novel, She Has Come Undone. Great book. Consider it for your next read.

And so onto tomorrow. It is another day and another board. Here’s hoping for one a day. That’s imposing for one such as myself.

But who knows?

If you know someone who loves the rustic, sorta shabby look and looks kindly upon recycling endeavors, please send them my way. I’m here!

Bettty White, Planet Hopping, and Mouse Speak

18 Jan

Zach’s car is an old white Honda Accord named Betty White.

Not Zach's Betty White.

Not Zach’s Betty White.

Also Not Zach's Betty White

Also Not Zach’s Betty White. This one is too pretty.

She’s been a pretty reliable vehicle but Wednesday Betty White (the car) injured a foot and briefly had to wear an ugly old spare shoe.

Yesterday we replaced a couple of Betty White’s shoes and arranged to get an estimate on aligning her front end. I know my front end could use an alignment, so in car years Betty White must be way overdue.

This morning we will receive the good? (bad?) news regarding her front end.

I can’t wait.

There is no public transportation in my neighborhood. I have mixed feelings about that. I would love to spare myself the task and expense of filling Bruhonda’s fuel tank. I would love to spare Mother Earth a bit of exhaust. I would love to avoid the maintenance we have on three vehicles.

I would probably miss the bus more often than not. I have serious punctuality issues.

With that in mind I will continue to drive Bruhonda until his little doors fall off and hope that efficiency increases greatly before I buy another or go planet hopping.

Whichever comes first.

I have the weekend planned with sewing, knitting, movie-going, Downton Abbey and sleep, lots of sleep. If all goes well Monday will see me rested, entertained, and my cupboards stocked with a few new items for the Etsy store. The best laid plans of mice and men….

Do mice really make plans? Or are they spontaneous in their actions? Hmmmm. Now there’s a point to ponder this weekend. I guess I could confer with the little mice families in the barn.

I don’t speak mouse though. Except for ‘eke, eke, eke’.

Doubt we’d get far with that.

So here’s to a happy weekend for all, including the barn mice and Betty White and you, dear reader, especially you.

It’s been my pleasure.

Canine Frolics, Awards, and Tricks

12 Dec

This morning I was victim to a rambunctious trio of mutts in a dog pile. Guess who was on bottom.

It started with the curvaceous (read fat) Bunny. I had poured my first cup of coffee and planted my piggy butt on the loveseat in the kitchen/dining room and opened the cover to my Kindle, when lard-ass Bunny came through the doggie door both barrels cocked, tongue hanging, smiling idiotically. She leaped onto the loveseat, scrambled into my lap, placing front paws on the arm of the loveseat, and proceeded to lick the epi off the dermis of my face.

The neurotic Molly pounced onto my knee, complaining loudly about the attention hog in my lap and then proceeded to join the Bunster. Peanut wasn’t far behind.

Let’s see….that’s about….oh…160 pounds of dog…on…my….lap, with tongues and tails waggin’. I am one lucky woman.

Thank goodness Bob showed up and diverted their attention.  Saved by a husband coming in from work!

Yesterday, I completed my first sale from my Etsy shop. Geez, I hope she likes it.

And today my friend Eunice at http://nutsfortreasure.wordpress.com nominated me for the Wonderful Team Member Readership Award! More on that tomorrow…

Yup….one lucky woman.

Today I have been reading fellow bloggers, learning to make badges, working on business and thank you’s….generally trying to learn a few things. Makes my head swim in the wrong direction. There’s something about old dogs and new tricks?

Please send me a heads up if you have any new tricks for me. Just so they know, I charge by the pound.

I would be most appreciative. I would even tell both my friends about you…really.
