Tangled Tuesday, They’ve Been At It Again

It’s another Tangled Tuesday.

I must admit my mood has altered little over the past 24 hours.

But our local NPR affiliate broadcast a piece this morning that served to further enlighten me on the machinations of the Arkansas state legislature this morning. I now know what the phrase ‘ignorance is bliss’ really means.

First an actor who plays Jesus led a prayer on the Senate Floor, prior to which the Lt. Governor asked if anyone in the room was a Judas. No? Really? Well according to one source, the reference to Judas was intended as a joke and it may or may not have been made by the LG. Haha…. And according to same, the actor is actually a pastor and does his stint as Jesus in The Passion Play that is produced in Eureka Springs. I can neither confirm nor deny this. Such fun in the senate! I suppose our lawmakers require a little god humor considering the burden of their tasks.

Then at some point during a debate over primate ownership, these same lawmakers felt compelled to howl like apes. Yes it did happen.

With all the controversy over evolution here in the Bible belt,  I’m now inclined to think we have a definitive answer as to whether or not man descended from monkeys.

Turns out one opposition to ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment was the concern that our daughters might be forced to share a college dorm room with (gasp) boys! We know that hasn’t ever happened in the history of the U.S.

That sound you hear is my head pounding on my desk.

Neanderthals still walk among us. I use the term ‘walk’ loosely.

I’m wishing and hoping that this sh*t can’t rub off. Another generation of this and my family will no doubt become Canadians. Expats of some sort anyway. Or hermits.

I love to laugh. I love a good joke. I’m all about innuendo. There’s even a soft spot in my heart for slapstick. But when I consider the backward facing, bible thumping, pretentious and morally superior high ground these ‘lawmakers’ take in relation to women’s rights, to human rights, I don’t find this sort of BS very funny. It loses its humor and becomes just another reason to shake my head and marvel that these people live in the 21st century and still manage to get elected.

Yup. Arkansas is still Koched out.

Oh please, oh please, oh please share your thoughts!
